"Madoff Stole $50 Billion and Gets to Vacation in His Luxurious Penthouse"
It was determined that Madoff would not be going to jail in spite of him mailing over a million dollars in items to family members that may have otherwise been confiscated. This should have been more than enough reason to through him behind bars. Instead he is spending his days and nights in his luxurious penthouse with an ankle bracelet. The deal that allowed him to stay in the comfort of his own home and not a jail cell was that he could not touch any of his assets. However, I guess that if he got someone else to mail his personal possesions that doesn't count?
Bernie Madoff lost billions of dollars of one investors money that ultimately led to his suicide leaving behind a grieving widow....so shouldn't he also be charged for 2nd degree murder. Madoff drove this investor to suicide in a complete disregard for the financial stability and personal well-being of this investor and several other investors.
The charge of securities fraud presented against Madoff carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison. Other charges could be added as the case is presented to a grand jury. This appears to be a very serious penalty that he faces so, there again, why is the legal system allowing him to parade around still living a comfortable existence while such heavy accusations are being charged upon him (most of which he has confessed to)?
